Last 2 Weeks (Stuart)

Been a really good last 2 weeks training wise last week ran 30 odd miles and this week was 7 days of sport running and cycling to work mon-fri parkrun on sat over snow and ice and 2 hours of football today feeling good after these 2 weeks. also had a really good meeting last week and following it up with a second tomorrow with what looks like a important member potentially of the team going to be interesting seeing what we can arrange tomorrow. waiting on hearing back from gooutdoors who say they may be able to provide some camping gear will be nice.

getting decent numbers following on twitter and opening up lots of new avenues for us for help advice and some handy contacts. all in all it has been a good couple of weeks. trying to blog more often so I remember all this stuff once we Finnish our trip.

Dec update (Stuart)

Been a good week so far 32 miles ran legs feeling good finally injury free thank god been giving me bother for the last 2 months or more not helped by continuing to play football and train!!

Going for a run in the morning before playing 5s in the afternoon looking forward to getting out for an early run without finishing at my work! also with no backpack on so should feel light on my feet. sent out 40+ emails today seeing if any uni students or Edinburgh companies would have any interest in filming us while we train and/or on our trip. might be a decent opportunity for a student to hone sone photography and filming skills and also could be good for us to have some decent footage and photos of our training and maybe a chance to have our cycle documented and something we can look back on in the future. If not will settle for trying to film and capture what we can with the resources we have. tomorrow will start targeting small local companies to see if they can get involved and support us must be someone out there who fancies helping just need to find them. missing not being able to get out on the bike much but at the same time enjoying the running and good cardio, glad I'm keeping up the training as it's so easy to give it ip for the winter but don't want to get to next year and not be fit enough to complete our cycle. No football for a while winter well and trueley here but been a while since played 5s so looking forward to that. hopefully once the park runs are back on can get a decent time and a pb after all this running.

Winter 2010 (Stuart)

Long time since last post so I'm going to wrap up the last few months into a few words! Married life is treating me well we had a great honeymoon in the Maldives and a really great day was nice to have all our friends and family together in one room. Welcome to the family Mrs Doyle

My training has improved and I feel much stronger and fitter than before. Over the last 2 weeks i have started running to work so getting 10k under my belt daily and this with football cycling(where possible in this weather) and weight training over the winter months i should see an improvement come Jan/Feb. We need to try where possible to get some distance on the bikes if possible either in the gym or ideally out on the roads but going to be tough with the worst conditions in 17 years out there.

We are arranging 2 events for next year to be our main fundraisers and they are coming along well we have had the go ahead to complete a world record attempt for the longest game of 5 aside football and are going to play a charity fundraiser against the hearts legends.

So all in all its going well we need to really push on and try to secure some sort of sponsorship i will try and sort something out this weekend. But with our events we might get some exposure and maybe people will be more inclined to help out.

congratulations stu and ella (Chris)

Attended stuart and ella's wedding monday past. After a few years engaged they have finally done the deed. Well Done! was a cracking day. Ella looked beautiful. You're a lucky man stu! The Ceremony was carried out in the same room/building as Steve and narda's last year. Thankfully the rain held off until later so the photographer managed to get sum guid photos. Cant wait to see them. Its fair to say the whole day went without a hitch. Ate and drank a fair amount but eased off a tad when the southern  posse rocked up about 7pm. Really guid laff. no disco dancing until later on though once me, rich, mal and suz headed off to....forget its name. George Street sumwhere. Opal Lounge thats it. was dead. Still danced though. Coulda easily went hame after we got turfed out of the wedding reception but mal dragged me along. I can well imagine they are having a superb time on the honeymoon in the maldives. Lucky so and so's.

.....But not long until my own holiday. A week on Tuesday. Canny wait! Text from ma to say weather scorching which is good to hear. Take a winter tan ha ha.

Now the football update. In short Edinburgh Southern still unbeaten. Another convincing win last sunday - 12-2 against mid-tablers and the much inconsistent/hard to predict Stables FC.  Goals galore so good to get that tally up. Shouldnt have conceded 2 though. Canny grumble much i guess. Lister the star of the show with a 4 goal haul. Did bag another fine header myself. Niccceeee. Didnt play particularly well. Cup game this week. Be a tough one. Espesh with Stu away and malcy out injured.  Think its an afternoon KO which is a tad annoying.

Still no main sponsor for the cycle trip. Stu has been working hard trying to organise a football game against the hearts legends. Hopefully that will happen in march 2011. Sounds like a goer.

Injured

yep injured LCL strain but still probably going to play football on Sunday biggest game of the season can hopefully extend our lead at top of the table.

not been able to train much recently have broke down a few tine with this fan knee injury so not ideal but still plenty of time till we leave, won't be helped much by my honeymoon coming up 10 days in the Maldives I can't wait it's going to be awsome place we are staying looks out of this world. very excited about the wedding is going to be a great day. although the stag doo is first and that will be feking superb fun, nice and low key and not going anywhere dressed as a baby that's for sure!!

not much else on my mind friend over for dinner tonight and a couple more on Thursday will be fun oh and champs league tonight thinking inter 2 spurs 0 etoo with one if not both one a pen other a header.

all good generally just can't wait to shake off this injury hope I don't make it worse playing this weekend!! all about the winning

hatrick hero! (Chris)

Its been way too long since i last blogged. a good few weeks anyway. wil not leave it so long till next time.

Anyhoo, as the title hints at, I did indeed manage to bag a hatrick in todays latest Edinburgh Southern outing. we won 5-1 against the league whippping boys meadowbank. Colin lister and gaz moyes geting in on the act with a heavy touch of contrroversy surrounding gaz moyes "ghost goal".  To explain, basically he headed wide. keeper took the buy kick and then the ref said he'd given a goal. Cue many a puzzled face from the southern side and a few facial expressions that screamed WTF?!?! from meadowbank. Thankfully the goal stood. However, us being not only the leagues best team and indeed leaders, but also a pretty sporting bunch, we decided to let them score one to bring it back to level pegging. Not happy myself but i guess it was only fair. But really ill take any bit of good fortune in this league. not gonna pass up that gift of a goal as ye never know when it could go against us. Still won the match easy enuff. Now, more about that hatrick! goal 1 - tap in rebound from marco rossi edge of the box strike. goal 2 - headed (which i do always enjoy!) into the postage stamp from lister stand up cross. and to complete the trick named hat, goal 3 comes straight from a corner. Jurassic park! Yeehaw. Wind probably helped a tad mind. my first competitve treble and i made sure i blooming enjoyed it by celebrating like a total over excited little boy waking up on xmas morning.  Other notable match incidents included: Rich almost scoring with 1st touch after coming on then hitting the post with an outrageous overhead kick, numerous folk missing no fewer than 4 first half headed chances, myself missing 2 sitters, stevie woods (really a GK) coming on to play up front and causing them a few probs. watch out lister and gaz, he'll be after a start next game!).  Needless to say a pretty interesting spectacle!

Went round to see steve, narda and lil cullen kain earlier. He is very cute indeed. Still never havin kids mind. Just happened to be up that way as had gone to the cinema and then subsequently left early as was falling asleep. Was fine as soon as I got outside tho. Thats it though, ive given all these kids 3D films more than enuff chances. Im not seeing anymore. Todays offering was Despicable Me which i didnt know much about to be fair and was totally sleep deprived from last nite. And the dark cinema dont exaclty help with trying to stay awake but it was not good. Think ive only really left the cinema early 3 or 4 times. Waste of the afternoon that was, so worked out handy steve was in and could pop round there for a wee visit.

Still no concrete sponsor for our bike trip. British Gas still sound well interested but we'll see. Suz seems to have a few irons in the fire regarding getting some gear from them through a couple of similar charity type events that are happening with them. Think they are getting sum gear and there might be talk of us getting a bit ourselves which of course would be most welcome.

Could noooooo sleep at all last nite. Reckon i got about 2 hours kip max. Dunno why. Well was quite excited about the football today so that accounted for my lying awake until maybe 1am but after that.....just totally ricidulous. Was so wide awake practically all night. Not any fun at all. Got well agitated. Even tried to have a game on the mega drive to kill some time but that doesnt seem to be working. Missing some sorta lead me thinks. Tad annoying.

Congratulations Stu on passing your driving test! Well done. Good to get that out the way as its only gonna get tougher to pass and definately more expensive.

Been looking at getting maself a new tele. About time I upgraded from the eyesore that currently provides my entertainment. Dont reckon ill get wan as cheap as i thought i might tho. Always want summat for cheap me!! Hopefully get a 24incher for about 150 bones. Xmas not actually that far way i suppose. And then Jan sales. Maybe i should hang off.

Which reminds me.... how good The Hangover is. Started watching that online earlier. So damn funny. Think the directors / Zach Galifianakis new comedy vehicle Due Date might be pretty good having seen a new trailer for it. Be nae Hangover mind but i dont expect it to be either. Cant possibly be.

Purchased a tik for Mogwai in early Feb 2011 at the Picture house. So looking forward to that. Never seen them live. Hopefully kev or Fairs will tag along. Im just hoping they play sum of the Zidane film soundtrack! They wont tho. Interpol to come before that in Novemeber. Zat will be awesome.

Catch.

So the mighty Edinburgh Southern climb back to the top of the league with a game in hand. top of the league na na na na na top of the league na na na na na

Been training hard this week been in the gym on the bikes and back on the weights feeling stronger as the weeks go think have finally got rid of niggling knee injury thankfully. back in the gym tomorrow few hours on the not very comfortable gym bike seats. will be good to get the miles in over winter in the gym when the weather gets worse the gym being free is also a huge bonus! 3 weeks till I'm on holiday again so going to work hard before then to keep the fitness up. not going to be able to train together in nov due to holidays so good to put in big shifts this month.

feeling good looking good

Training (Stuart)

Football training last night was good my knee injury flared up again quite annoying but feels ok today been told it's just inflamed so taking painkillers. hitting the gym tonight before Scotland game feeling good after a couple of weeks of training back from holiday feeling strong but need to build up the stamina will be doing that all winter on the gym bikes, not comfortable at all though.
end of year closing in quick will be good to start raising money for st colombas next year, think asking people to donate now is way to early. hope to hold a couple of events next year before we go aswell as just general guns raising at work etc.

hope to get decent sesh in gym tonight and a Scotland win will set up the weekend nicely.

Sunday 3 October 2010

Back from holiday (Stuart)

very annoyed just wrote a whole entry and it didn't add!!!
so just said back from 2 weeks in turkey feeling a little rusty after not doing much excersise swam lots but nothing cardio based!

had football training Thursday felt sharp but injured my knee but should be ok for tomorrows big Scottish cup game.

weather starting to turn bad so looks like we will be in the gym lots in the next 3 or 4 months I think. Chris has been working hard the last few weeks so I will need to step it up this next month before my honeymoon and another 2weeks off.

time flying and still yet to confirm our first sponsor just hopefully iron out a few details and should have one confirmed asap!

Thursday 16 September 2010

congratulations steve and narda (chris)

just back from playing 5's at ze corn exchange. been ages since i had a game. was good fun, felt good. usually totally breathing out ma behind after a few mins! bagged a fair few..obviously. does wonders for the old fitness playing 5's. even felt fine cycling hame. managed to break the bracket for ma front light which is a tad annoying. did only cost a pound so i guess you get what you pay for!

sunday past saw the mighty edinburgh southern remain unbeaten this season with another hard fought victory. it was cup week this time against the unknown quantity Novar Rovers who hail from sumwhere in fife. 2-0 it finished. another clean sheet and once again i shoulda scored. no game this week which is dissapointing. however, from a squad point of view its probably a decent week to miss a game with juanjo, stuart and stew connell all missing for one reason or another. hopefully get sum sorta training done. shall need to get myself round arthurs seat again soon. its been too long. maybe tomorrow morning.

down in kelso overnight on monday getting the MOT for the car. it passed! another year out of it hopefully.
spoiled as usual by the parents. washing done and well fed!

steven and narda finally had their lil baby on monday. a boy named......? they havent decided yet. seen sum beautiful pictures. cant wait to see the wee one. quite weird stuart and ella being on holiday missing the whole birth. and speaking of holidays, itching to get away myself now. had a peep at sum flights for tenerife in november. not bad, not dirt cheap. good flight times with ryanair which is always a plus.

yaaaaaasssss! liverpool just gone 3-1 up against steau. a belter from lucas. yeehaw! game over. diddy cup mind - should be waltzing thru the group stages. anfield looks half empty.

no word yet on any sponsorshop etc for cycle trip. so wishing something to happen - sponsorship, some publicity/exposure...anything!

Weekend Training (Stuart)

A good weekend of training up the pentlands cycling on the Friday night was tough but enjoyable, followed by another 5k on Saturday morning (9:30am start) new PB shaving 6 whole seconds off my time still not under 22minutes yet but was very warm this week. Will try not do to much on Friday night this week before the run and shave a few more seconds off.

On holiday for 2 weeks as of Sunday so will try and keep up the fitness levels while away, have access to the gym so will be in there most days doing something (also the topless running along the beach every morning) don't want to slip back a few weeks as when i get back it will be October and we will be in 2011 before i know it and counting down the weeks till we leave and i want to be as fit as i can be before we go. Fair enough if the bike broke and couldn't finish the trip but don't think i could handle not being fit enough to complete the cycle (not that i would ever give up), plus we are up against it time wise as i need to be back to work as soon as we come home boooooo.

Mighty Southern top of  the league and still unbeaten this season, only team in the league mind!!

have been enjoying looking at this site www.bigearth.co.uk esp Russ Malkins (He worked on Long Way Down/Round etc) 101amazing adventures of the world. Lucky guy.

Im also well up for some geocaching (www.geocaching.com) might see if we can get involved on our trip next year

a most important victory (chris)

had a sound weekend.
completed another 5k parkrun on sat morning. was tough. soooooo damn hot but managed to chop a whole 2 seconds off my PB meaning it now stands at 19m 15s. reckon i can do under 19mins soon if i can keep going most weeks. im sure the total numbers will drop come the winter months but i still intend to pull myself out of bed to get down there and do it.

ealy night on sat in prep for what was gonna be a massive game in edinburgh southerns fixture list this season. partizan at home, a team we hadnt beaten in 90mins in 3 games last season....until now that is. a hard fought narrow 2-1 victoy in which i scored which was most satisfying. marco rossi bagging the other - a great team goal i must say.
thats us top of the league now after 4 games - 3 good wins, a decent draw and therefor still unbeaten. view looks good from the top - lets stay there!

saw The Switch on sunday. very good indeed. jason bateman is the man. another frat packer that jen aniston has co-starred with. think she only has ferrell left but cant see that combo happening..

picked up a quality couple of footy tops the other day. so random. the coventry 95-96 away which is pretty minging but in a good way. and the 2004-06 equador top ha ha. its made by marathon (yes who?). these both in the same charity shop i might add. who donates this stuff. i'm glad whoever it is anyway. building up quite a collection now!

still no sponsor yet for team P2P. have started to send letters out to edinburgh based bike companies so fingers crossed. might just go ahead and email UK companies again but this time just come out and ask for sponsorship etc rather than just a contact name as didnt really get any response apart from a couple of places saying no as they'd spent their yearly charity budget. can try again in january.
intended to go for a cycle this morning but the weather is pretty awful. might have to a wee run instead.

Friday 3 September 2010

pentlands reservoir cycle (chris)

Not long back from Steve's flat. Took a watch of the scotland game. usual story - massive optimism swiftly followed by massive dissapointment! If we dont beat leichienstein on tuesday then we are screwed and can safely say cheerio to another major tourney. ach they played decent. tried hard etc etc but get little jimmy mcfadden starting EVERY scotland game in the future!!
Narda looks fit to burst. Pretty sure she's been pregnant for like a whole year now. Hurry up and have your baby! Along with the football, dinner was provided. And of course muffins. Yum.

Stuart and myself are attending the 5k Parkrun tomorrow morning. Stuart seemed to enjoy his first one last week even though it was tough going especially into that wind along the home straight. I managed to chop 31seconds of my best time meaning my personal best now stands at 19mins 17secs. Very chuffed with that. Finally got round to calibrating my nike plus wristband last nite so will time my 5k tomorrow myself which will be handy. Probably shouldn't have the 4 laps running and 4 laps walking before football training mind.

Done a fair bit of cycling this week. Went out towards Edinburgh zoo on Wednesday night after work. Probably done about 10miles in total that day.  Still going every day to work. Could do without it being uphill all the way though!  Today after work cycled up to the Pentlands reservoir with Stuart and Steven. Was cracking. Some beautiful scenery up there. Just annoyed I hadnt been up sooner and that summer is coming to an end....Round trip of 20miles. Took about 2 hours with a couple of stops along the way. Felt good and a tad more confident of the trip next year. Took a few wrong turns but hey thats half the fun i guess. Could of done without actually having to cycle through someones farmyard type area. Saw some cows. Took some photos. All good.

We are still working hard to find a main sponsor for our trip if you can help please contact us parthenon2011@gmail.com

Also check out this amazing adventure http://www.scotland2sahara.com/ being taken on by Dr Andrew Murray from Edinburgh

Andrew will be running from the snow in Scotland to the sand dunes of the Sahara, covering some 2650 miles. In preparation for the main challenge he is also taking part in various extreme endurance events during 2010.
Every penny raised by Andrew will go to the Yamaa Trust. Completed projects include building felt huts for orphanages, distributing medical equipment and essential supplies.
This year, the charity aims to build a school for the deaf in the South Gobi desert as well as providing funding for medical care in rural areas, and accommodation and services for mentally ill people.

I spoke to Andrew recently he was offering a few tips and pointers and told me his father actually works for St Columba's Hospice the charity we have chosen to raise money for, small world.

Its an amazing challenge Andrew has set himself and if you can help him out please visit his website to support/donate

training / emailing (Chris)

last week was a fairly busy week i guess...went out for a couple of runs on tuesday and friday. good to get round arthurs seat as hadnt done that in a while...allbeit at a pretty slow pace ha ha (sorry stu!). that was swiftly followed by another 5k parkrun down at sliverknowes promenade on sat morning. dont know how i got on yet as no results up on the website. reckon i chopped a tiny bit of my personal best. thats been 3 weeks in a row ive been able to get down there and will be there this saturday too. only another 46 after that to get my free t-shirt!!

the mighty southern only manged a draw with edin caley yest. 2-2. shoulda won and defo feels like 2 points dropped but hey least we didnt get beat. theyll be up there come the business end of the season. twas a game which saw the stroth debut the shiny new red/blood orange nike boot boots. felt good. comfy as. shoulda scored. another game which a couple of chances went-a-begging for me. need to improve on that goal to chance ratio bigtime.

combine all that running with football yesterday and i was a pretty knackered old git by yest afternoon. meaning i had a lil snooze and consequently missed most of the liverpool west brom game. good to see el nino getting off the mark. he'll probs go off on international duty and get injured playing for spain now...

no word or news on any sponsorship for the big cycle trip yet..still early i guess. stuart (and to a certain extent myself..) has been pretty busy sending out emails to basically anyone that sells bikes with the hope of getting sum sponsorship but had no luck so far.

got the facebook page done - parthenon2parthenon charity cycle. no photos up yet so that needs done. got a few members so far so hopefully that'll help spread the word.

saw dinner for schmucks last nite - pretty decent. bit odd in bits. espesh the dude from flight of ze chonchords. thinking the original french version will be better...which ill probs never see anyway.

Training (Stuart)

So last week was a busy week of training for me. Monday was a nice easy rest day, Tue i ran a cheeky 5k at night, Wed a rest day.Thursday i had football training, Friday another 5k run round Arthur Seat, Sat a 5k run at crammond as part of the Edinburgh Parkrun, finnished 87th out of abut 200 runners not bad since im not much of a runner bit i was a bit dissapointed as my legs felt sore and tight from a hard week of running and cycling. Sunday we played last season league champions and finished 2-2 not a bad result but should of snuck it i think, still unbeaten in 3 games.

No big cycles this week only to and from work and a few extra miles here and there prob only done about 30miles in the week.

Thursday 26 August 2010

Training (Stuart)

So I am going to start running 5k's on a sat morning through parkrun in Edinburgh. This together with my football training and cycling on a daily basis should keep me going fitness wise for the next couple of months till the winter comes. We are still awaiting confirmation of our first sponsor hopefully it wont be to long till someone helps out and then we can start getting things moving. We are trying to plan in some time to get a long distance cycle in but this is hard due to work and playing football at the weekends!

Friday 13 August 2010

Exposure (Stuart)

Well we got our first bit of press regarding our trip. On Monday the Evening News ran our story along with some internal releases from St Columba's. We also might have the first of our sponsors but we need to wait a week or so before finalising anything.
The response has been good so far from the release and telling all our friends etc, people have been actively approaching me and offering advice and help.Hopefully in the coming weeks we can get a bit more press coverage and secure a sponsor or 2 if we are lucky.
I need  to step up the cycling over the next few weeks as I'm on holiday in September, 2 weeks sitting on my ass sunning myself.

Monday 2 August 2010

hello and welcome to the blog (chris)

Yesterday was a fairly long day but cant thank steven enough for giving up his time and helping us with the website (http://www.parthenon2parthenon.co.nr/) and the blog. So once again Steve, thanks a million. I have to say it was pretty darn cool and exciting watching him work his magic and seeing it all come together. It really feels like a big job is done and we can really start getting the word out about what we are doing.

I guess the hard work starts now though. Gotta get the fitness up! After a weekend of rubbish: eating, drinking, and erm dancing, I must get on the bike ASAP and get some much needed excercise done. Playing football Tuesday night which will be tough but can only benefit. Looking forward to it.

Mon the Southern!!

Sunday 1 August 2010

The Journey begins (Stuart)

With great thanks to my brother Steven we have finally created our website and this very blog!
My cycling training today consisted of a 5 minute cycle to my brothers flat but with pre season training (for the mighty Edinburgh Southern) well and truly under way the quest for extreme fitness has begun. Only 10 months till we leave and 10 months to get into the best shape of my life.

I am feeling a mixture of excitement, nervousness and trepidation at the thought of completing this cycle, I just hope that we can finish the cycle on time and with no casualties. I just want to get in the saddle and get going.

Hopefully we can secure a main sponsor in the coming months who will fund this trip or be kind enough to donate some gear.
